OLD NOKIA PHONE CAN HACK INTO BANK ACCOUNTS Print E-mail

Cybercriminals may have found that they can hack into bank accounts with an old Nokia mobile phone. Fraudsters have been paying over the odds for the obsolete Nokia 1100, as it is believed they can reprogramme the handset to intercept SMS messages sent by some banks. These messages contain one-time passwords. Gangs had started paying up to £9,000 for the handset last year, but one was recently sold online for £22,000. Nokia's recommended retail price for the handset was £89.

Academics at the University of Melbourne claim that surfiing the internet for fun during office hours increases productivity. The sutdy showed that people who use the web for personal reasons at work are around nine per cent more productive than those who don't.

Online criminals have targeted Apple Mac computers, creating what is thought to be the first Mac-based botnet. Users seeking pirated versions of Apple's iWork '09 suite of office software may find that they receive more that they expect. Security company Symantec has discovered a Trojan version of the software on peer-to-peer file-sharing networks that includes spyware.
